Skype on Ubuntu, Linux

I just have to thanks skype that they made a version for Ubuntu. Its very importent to me since I am support on telephone by skype daily and need it to run, and ofcourse work… The sad thing about skype on Ubuntu is that it is not that developed as it is on Windows. Perhaps it makes seance but still, very frustrating. Some times when I get a call or even when I call people the program is getting some random error and the call just dismiss and you have to kill the process and start it again before it works witch can be little enjoying. The same problem also happens when you are writing with someone, so I would be very glad if they might fix this. Another problem is that is pretty difficult to use your USB-microphone on Skype since it do not catch new hardware. So atm I am using my pre installed microphone on my laptop witch is not good at all.

So, overall I am glad that is exist but still… please try to upgrade it very soon, I need it!

Canon EOS1000D review

When i graduated from high school my father and mother was very kind and gave me a camera, Canon EOS1000D to use when skydiving. I even get the package 18-55mm lens. Any way the camera what i thought in the beginning should not be able to manage the auto focus while skydiving but it did surprise me. It works very well and I am very satisfied with the in my opinion cheap camera. Well perhaps it is not a camera for professional users but works fine for me who are pretty new to the photo section.

The fast shoot function in what I nearly only have used so far is very good. It takes 3 photos in 1 second and that’s more then good for beginners. The auto focus is also very fast. The product itself feels very good in the hand, you can feel the quality and I think that Canon have done a great job here. Little info about the product: 10.1(effective) mega pixel, Maximal resolution: 3888×2592px, Sensor: CMOS, Filter: RGB, Video: No (Not needed for photo camera iom), HDMI outputs: No, Weight: 450g (without objective).

I will give this camera 5/5 since the price is very accepteble for what you get and the product does do what it is made for!

For about one year ago I was looking for a good real time support for my webhost company, inleed.se. After some search on google I found Provide Support. Acer Aspire 5738ZG Review

My newst investing is the cheap Asus Aspire 5738ZG notebook. The low price is nearly one of few things that is good with the product, nah now I am little mean, but still I have already have a mess with this little machine.

Ok, lets start with the design. Here I just have to say that they have success. But some times the product just feel cheap, for etc the keyboard, the buttons could be in more quality. Lets give it 4/5 on my new 5 stage rating system

Price VS what you get. Okay, the price is good. I bought it for 5990 Swedish money, skr. And the specs are pretty good for this price, Pentium dual core (ONLY WITH 1 MB CASE :$ makes me angry!) 2.0 ghz, 4 gb ddr3 (good), geforce G105M 512 mb dedi mem, 300 GB ide? So all the specs are good imo but still, the cpu with only 1 mb case is perhaps to low. And ofc you get Windows vista 32 bit system. And again, what were they thinking of? Why not just give the buyer 64 bit OS when the cpu supports it and when you only get out 3 gb from ram memory with 32 bit system. Well again supid.

For us Linux lovers this 32 bit OS is not any problem but when I just have to use Windows some times for games etc I want to use what I have bought? Btw, do not forget to burn out backup of your win installation, asus takes 30 $ for new CD if you forget it, very kind… -_-

So how does it work with Ubuntu then… Well actually not good at all. Ofc do not Nvidia have any drivers for the gpu at this moment so you have to use some random Nvidia driver to not get 6 screens. I have wrote a howto for this but still very time taking. The audio card does not either work as it should and you can just forget the webcam and microphone. Some times etc when I write this review I get the feeling of some smal lag and they cpu is using like 20% of both core when i have Firefox, Pidgin and Spotify running, not good.

But if you have a lot of time and like to “hack” around this computer is perfect for Ubuntu using, as well for Windows ofc.

And remember not to call the support. They a huge not care support, like the example for the copy of the win disc.

Total score 3/5, and 2/5 if the price would be little higher.

Firefox

This will be my first review and I will write my opinion about Firefox version 3.

Short information about Firefox

Firefox 1.0 was released in November 2004 by the creators of Mozilla. Firefox is as many other web browsers free to download and use. It have Open Source and does work to operative systems like Linux, Mac and Windows. Today the version 3 is out and is a very popular web browser. The goal with version 3 were to be the most downloaded software in 24 hours, the result became over eight million downloads.

My own opinion

I did my first download of Firefox for more then a year ago. Before i did download Firefox I was a true Internet Explorer user most because of their FTP client, that they did remove in Internet Explorer 7 -_- Any way, my first impression of Firefox was good. That i did like most of it was their tag system which i never seen before. But what i did not like was their FTP client which for me is worth nothing. An other good thing about Firefox was that i never seen one more “can not respond” error… But the happines wouldent stay for long. In the newer version of Firefox they have a new problem with closing down the browser. If you shut it down and will start it again you will with big possibility get the error “Firefox is already running”. The only good thing about this is that the error is only comes on Windows, atleast for me, but since I am half Windows user i really do not like this error. Any way, since it fast and works on Linux is it the best web borwser that i have used so far.

Score:

8/10 – Good score, still it can be better!
